Best Madrid shopping

A lot of our clients at Natives Spanish Tapas ask us where the best shopping in Madrid is,  “sounds like a plan”, we love shopping, especially the day after joining us on one of our many amazing Madrid tapas tours. It really depends on what  you are looking to buy. On today’s Native Spanish Tapas post, we are going to look at the three Madrid shopping areas that we recommend our Spanish tapas tours customers. We are going to divide it into three segments: luxury, budget fashion  and vintage flea-market shopping.

Luxury shopping:
The best area for luxury family owned boutiques or known international exclusive brands is the the Salamanca neighborhood. In fact, it is considered to be the posh neigborhood. Madrileños call it “la mina de oro” or the gold-mine. We recommend checking out calle Goya, calle Velázquez and calle Serrano.

Budget fashion:

For the best price quality, we recommend Puerta del Sol area for budget fashion shopping. Calle Preciados is the avenue that travels north from the Puerta del Sol. Local madrileños do their purchasing here, you can find brands like Zara, H&M, Sphera, among many others. Plus it has Spain’s biggest department store chain El Corte Inglés.  We recommend joining us on one of our many Madrid Tapas Tours to give you additional tips on what to do during your stay in Madrid.

Flea-market shopping:

Madrid’s “Rastro” open-air flea-market is a must see. It’s over 400 years old! It is a five minute walk south from Plaza Mayor. It starts on the northern end of calle de la Ribera de Curtidores and continues down-hill until Ronda de Toledo street.  It is jam packed with people rain or shine. Keep your wallets in your front pockets and keep all purses in front of you and zipped up, here is a link of Madrid travel safety tips.  It has two types of stands, the fashion retro shopping stands or the antique stands. Native Spanish Tapas recommends checking out the antique stands on the perpendicular streets to the right as you are walking down-hill on calle de la Ribera de Curtidores. Explore the small quaint streets along that area, you will be amazed what you can find.
