History of Madrid
Madrid definitely has some of the best Spanish tapas and restaurants that Spain has to offer. It also has a lot of history behind its people and customs given the melting-pot of events that have taken place in history. The history of Madrid is definitely a very exciting to learn about and see in person. Recently, the city of Madrid finished the works of a Park to commemorate how Hebrews, Catholics and Muslims lived together in harmony, an important landmark in the history of Madrid. A great example of that unity was in the city of Toledo during the 13th century. The archaeological findings of the old Arabic wall built in the 9th century were originally discovered in 1953 and it wasn’t until 1985 that it was first disclosed to the public.
There are a lot of good restaurants in the area serving some of the best Spanish tapas where the wall stands. Today, it is an open-air park that you can visit 24 hours a day. The lighting at night is very beautiful (a great place to propose marriage…?) It’s majestic to see a fountain of the Star of David, hovered by the old Arabic wall, both imposed and hugged by the Almudena Cathedral overhead. It’s definitely worth checking out during your stay in Madrid.
