MOST BEAUTIFUL MADRID FOUNTAINS

Today we are going to look the most beautiful Madrid fountains and dig in a little behind their history and what they mean to us in Madrid. Native Spanish Tapas highly recommends visiting them during your stay here. All three of the beautiful Madrid fountains were based on the Greek mythological gods of Cybele, Neptune and Apollo. In the middle of the 18th century, King Carlos III carried out a series of reforms in the city of Madrid inspired by some European capitals such as Paris or St. Petersburg. The most beautiful Madrid fountains and the most popular one is Cibeles Fountain. It is alongside Rea, who were the goddesses of the earth. Real Madrid celebrates its championships in this fountain, years back, the fans would bath in the fountain until an arm got broken off, today, they block it off to crowds and only the players can gather inside the fountain.

The second the most beautiful Madrid fountains is Neptuno. It was originally placed on the downhill of el paseo de San Jeronimo overlooking Cibeles fountain, but in 1898 was moved in the roundabout of Paseo de Recoletos. Just as Real Madrid fans celebrate their victories in Cibeles, Atletico de Madrid fans do the same in Neptuno. Although, not as often, but things are changing and Atletico de Madrid has been on a five year winning streak.

The last of the fountains is Apolo,  which not many people know about because it is rather small compared to the other two. However it is equally important because it represents the mighty Apolo;  god of prophecy, music, song, poetry, archery, healing, plague and disease, and the protection of the young. It is situated between both Cibeles and Neptuno so it is really on the way when visiting Cibeles and Neptuno.
